The Poetic Research Bureau hosts a reading by three Los Angeles-based poets, each celebrating the publication of new books.

Saturday, September 18, 5pm

Will Alexander’s The Combustion Cycle, out now from Roof Books, focuses the reader’s attention on civilizations, geographies, and celestial objects ignored or rejected by mainstream world cultures.

Feliz Lucia Molina’s ROULETTE, published by Make Now Books, is a long generative poem, consisting of 54,872 combinations of poetic lines, based on the casino game of roulette. Methods of gamesmanship, chance, and randomization support mysterious, noir-like tableaux of shadowy numbers and unstable pronouns, where gun violence and fleeting voices compete with fractured words and texting lovers for digital and analog attentions.

Brian Kim Stefans presents a new English translation of Arthur Rimbaud’s verse poems, Festivals of Patience: The Verse Poems of Arthur Rimbaud, just out from Kenning Editions. With Rimbaud’s sense of songcraft in mind, Stefans has retained the French meters in his English versions.

This is a free event. Readings will take place outside on the 2220 Backlot. Please wear a mask.
